    GPC GlyceroPhosphoCholin 300mg

    Food Supplement with Glycerophosphocholine

GPC or GlyceroPhosphoCholine (pronounced gli-sero-fos-fo-ko-lean) is an orthomolecular nutritional important to cell- level homeostasis, tissue growth and renewal, organ vitality, and mind-body integration. Extensive research conducted with GPC showed positive outcomes, suggesting: attention boosts in healthy youth, countering cognitive decline in the middle aged, brain damage improvement, and the enabling of brain-body integration in the aged. GPC may also support male fertility', and is an important functional constituent of human breast milk.
This small hut metabolically versatile molecule has emerged as a premier dietary supplement to support active living and healthy aging.
Impressive Benefits for the Healthy Young
Products that improve mental performance in the healthy young are practically unknown. Well-controlled research suggests that GPC may benefit this population. The drug scopolamine depletes the brain’s acetylcholine stores, causing a transitory cognitive impairment similar to those observed in normal aging. This "scopolamine amnesia" is a useful experimental model of memory loss. In two findings, young healthy men and women were started on either a placebo or GPC, then treated with scopolamine or a placebo. GPC was credited with significant improvement in word recall and attention capacity, and even baseline word recall. In the second effort, subjects were given GPC, idebenone, or aniracetam. It was observed that GPC significantly protected learning and long-term verbal memory, performing better than idebenone and aniracetam. GPC also significantly benefited "working memory” in a test of abstract reasoning carried out together with an interfering attentive task.
GPC Enhances Mental Processing at Middle Age
Various physiologic research suggests GPC improves mental performance at middle age. In a study on subjects aged over 50 with AAMI (age-associated memory impairment), GPC improved the slow wave ("delta") EEG (ElectroEncephaloGraphic) activity. In other studies with subjects aged up to 65 years, GPC improved a number of mental processing measures, including reaction time, which is an indicator for age-related cognitive dysfunction. In a study with middle-aged male outpatients manifesting severe memory problems, GPC contributed to benefits of overall well-being, psychometric performance and reaction times, and compared against the alternatives, showed longer-lasting benefit. Visual evoked potential (VEP) is another physiologic response linked to cognitive performance. In subjects aged 59-83 with impaired brain circulation, GPC is thought to have increased VEP amplitude. Also, in healthy subjects, GPC enhanced cerebral glucose utilization suggesting it may increases energy production in the brain.
Helps the Elderly Resist Cognitive Deterioration
In 2001, noted researcher Lucilla Pametti published a meta-analysis of the data from 10 GPC studies that included 1,570 patients with severe cognitive decline. Overall, GPC improved memory, attention, other cognitive measures, and mood. Disorientation, irritability, emotional liability, communication, and indifference to surroundings also were significantly improved. GPC outperformed the nutrient citicoline in three direct comparisons, and bested the drug oxiracetam in two others. In another comparison, GPC performed roughly twice as well as acetylcamitine. In a large 2002 analysis, GPC benefited all the cognitive measures. The investigators also noted that GPC seemed to improve behavior and activities of daily living, factors directly relevant to quality of life for afflicted subjects and their caregivers.
    Unmatched for Damage Recovery
GPC is thought to be especially impressive for brain trauma recovery. Four studies with GPC against circulatory brain damage involved 2,804 patients. In all 4, GPC was given intramuscularly (i.m.) at 1,000 mg/day for the first month, then orally, 1200 mg/day for 5 months. GPC was said to help more than 95 percent of those studied. During the first month, GPC significantly assisted in accelerated recovery from focal neurological deficits, including space-time orientation, degree of consciousness, language, motor capacity, and general well-being. The subsequent oral phase of GPC consolidated the improvements. The
investigators concluded GPC offered likely benefits against acute cerebrovascular damage.
    Cognitive Damage Following Surgery
Cognitive abilities often decline as a result of invasive surgery. Mood and personality change, cognitive functions disappear, the mind easily fatigues. One study with GPC involved 20 subjects who had undergone coronary bypass. One half received GPC intravenously for one month then intramuscularly for 5 months; the other received intravenous placebo for one month then no further treatment. The GPC group seemed to display marked memory recovery while the placebo group continued to lose
    function.
    GPC Works Through Diverse Mechanisms
Well-absorbedbv mouth, GPC is said to have pro-homeostatic benefits for the brain, liver, kidneys, muscle, testes, and endocrine system. GPC works through a variety of mechanisms. It provides a unique type of osmotic protection against toxic buildup inside cells. It supports metabolic efficiency. Enzymes combine GPC with the omega-3 fatty acid DHA to create super-efficient phospholipids for cell membranes, and GPC is a highly bio-available source for active choline.
Source for Essential Choline and Transmitter Acetylcholine. GPC is an "active choline" source, and is thought to be able to raise blood and brain choline levels more safely and efficiently than choline itself. In humans, GPC taken by mouth is well- absorbed and increases plasma levels of choline for up to ten hours. Choline from GPC is available (a) as a methyl group source for gene-level and other metabolic regulation, (b) to make the chemical transmitter acetylcholine, (c) for incorporation into the cell membrane phospholipids phosphatidylcholine and sphingomyelin. Acetylcholine is a key brain transmitter in brain circuit maturation, expansion, renewal, adaptability (plasticity) and repair. Voluntary muscle contraction relies on acetylcholine release from motor nerves, and involuntary (autonomic) muscle actions also must uses acetylcholine. GPC effectively supports acetylcholine levels.
"Pro-Phospholipid" Membrane Building Block. Cell membranes are sheet-like molecular assemblies built on a matrix of phospholipids, into which are inserted a variety of proteins which carry out the sophisticated business of life. Cells grow and renew by making new membrane mass, for which they need phosphatidylcholine (PC), a phospholipid efficiently produced from GPC. GPC is a pro-phospholipid, a PC molecule without its fatty acid tails. GPC is a water-phase substance that can be transformed to lipid-phase (membrane) PC at very little energy cost.
Preferentially Utilized for Omega-3 Phosphatidylcholine. GPC is a preferred substrate for enzymes that attach it to DHA (docosahexaenoic acid, omega-3). The result is the highly fluidizing membrane phospholipid, PC-DHA. Cell membrane systems rich with PC-DHA allow their proteins to "flip" or "spin" faster in the highly fluid membrane environment, thereby facilitating metabolic efficiency. The most metabolically active cell types such as nerve cells, muscle fibers, retinal light-sensing cells, and the spermatozoon draw on GPC to make PC-DHA for optimal membrane performance.
Voluntary skeletal muscle also uses GPC to make PC-DHA, which is very important for the transmembrane calcium transporting proteins. Maturing spermatozoa become enriched in GPC as they move down the epididymis. This later becomes converted to PC-DHA, making their membranes highly fluid and able to carry out the swimming movements. GPC reaches extremely high levels in semen (in the ram, a remarkable 110 millimolar). In men, the lower levels of PC-DHA and GPC measured in the semen, the greater likelihood of poor sperm motility.
    GPC, OrthoNutritional for All Ages
An impressive body of research supports GPC as a premier orthonutritional supplement. In well-controlled studies GPC improved mental performance in the healthy young, the middle-aged, and the elderly. It is a likely boon for brain damage recovery and supports post-surgery recovery. GPC may also support mind-body integration. GPC's benefits have surpassed other cognitive support alternatives. Its ample presence in human mother's milk bolsters the case for conditional essentiality.
The ideal of active living suggests one’s organ systems are functioning at or near full capacity. GPC's diverse function as a cell membrane building block, choline reservoir, parent molecule for acetylcholine and PC-DHA, and osmoprotectant illustrate its support for an array of organ functions.
The goal of healthy aging suggests navigating the aging process with high quality of life. GPC with its marked benefits, multifaceted support for organ homeostasis, and rare capacity to revitalize the brain, may be a potent nutritional support for healthy aging. Though not an "anti-aging" panacea, GPC is a remarkably effective and safe support for active living and healthy aging.
