Enzymes help the body to digest food and absorb nutrients from proteins, carbohydrates, fats and plant fibres. Therefore, our body needs enzymes to function properly. We do not only need them for healthy digestion, but for all metabolic processes. “Enzymes are substances that make life possible. They are needed for all chemical reactions that take place in the human body. Without enzymes, none of those would happen. Neither vitamins, minerals nor hormones can function in absence of enzymes.” (Dr. Edward Howell, Pioneer of the enzyme therapy)
The highest priority of the body is to ensure adequate nutrition levels which allow all body systems to function properly. However, this requires an intact digestive system. The current nutritional lifestyle usually contains very little raw food rich in enzymes which is why our body is challenged to provide an increased number of enzymes. Providing additional levels of enzymes costs the body a lot of energy and explains why an increased number of people suffer from digestive problems and permanent tiredness. Dr. Fuller emphasizes in his book “The Healing Power of Enzymes” the need of enzymes for our digestion and the whole body itself: “Eighty percent of our body’s energy is consumed through the digestion process. If you are exhausted, under stress, living in an extreme climate zone, or are regularly flying, your body requires an enormous amount of extra enzymes. As our entire system works by enzymatic activity as well as the ageing process decreases our ability to produce the necessary amounts of enzymes, we are required to supplement enzymes. Doctors state that all diseases are caused by a lack or imbalance of enzymes. Our life depends on them! Enzymes are built from proteins and proteins are essential for our life. We constantly require those to rebuild and maintain tissue, to regenerate organs and glands, to regenerate chemistry in our brains, to synthesize hormones, and to support our immune system. If we do not digest proteins properly, we lack the necessary building blocks for life, sufficient energy and good health.
