Processing of your personal data

English translations are coming soon …

We are sorry to say that some parts of our website, including this page, are not yet available in other languages than German. While we are still working on an English translation of the German contents below, you might be able to clarify your most urgent questions with the help of online translation services such as, e.g., the increasingly popular DeepL translator or the well-known Google translator. For more precise translations of specific single German words and phrases, linguee.de would usually provide a huge variety of suggestions.

Of course, you may also contact us directly whenever you have specific questions. Most of our team members are familiar with other languages than German (mostly English, but some also with Dutch or French), and all will try their best to get your questions answered.

We have compiled and checked all information provided in our data privacy policy to the best of our knowledge and ability. If you shall nonetheless find certain parts of this privacy policy to be outdated, insufficient or otherwise incorrect, please notify us immediately, so that we can as soon as possible improve the respective parts.

4. What we do to protect your data

 translation required?

5. How you can protect your data

 translation required?

  • Geben Sie login-Daten niemals an Dritte weiter.
  • Verwenden Sie keine veraltete Software.

6. Information about the data processing (details)

The extent to which your data are being processed by us or by third parties depends on various factors. First, some of the components or techniques described below will be used only when you visit specific pages on our website, only while you are logged in, or only when you actually request (activate) certain actions or features. Second, most internet browsers can protect your privacy to some degree, as described at the end of section 5 (How you can protect your data). Finally, in the case that data processing by third party components or services (e.g., Google, YouTube, social media) lies beyond our control, the responsible providers or controllers will usually respect your privacy or at least anonymize your data as far as deemed acceptable as soon as you inform them about your personal preferences; further details about specific components or services are given in the respective sections below.

Your data processed when using our website will be deleted or blocked as soon as the purpose for its storage ceases to apply, provided the deletion of the data is not in breach of any statutory storage obligations or unless otherwise stipulated below.

Server data

For technical reasons, and especially to ensure the security and stability of our website, the following data sent by your internet browser to our web servers will be collected and recorded (stored) in so called server log files:

  • date and time of your visit;
  • IP-address of your device;
  • URL of the webpage you have requested;
  • referrer URL (the website you came from);
  • type and version of your browser and operating system;
  • amount of data (number of bytes) sent to you.

The data thus collected will be temporarily stored, but not in association with any other of your data.

Since we will process these server log files mainly to analyze if (and how) our website needs to be further optimized for particular user devices, languages, browser types or operating systems, your data will usually be anonymized during processing. Nevertheless, the data stored in our server log files may still allow us to identify your person, but we will make use of this possibility only if such processing is absolutely necessary to investigate or eliminate technical malfunctions, or to investigate or eliminate illegal activities upon justified suspicion.

The data will be either deleted or completely anonymized within no more than six weeks, unless continued storage is required for evidentiary purposes or to assess the frequency, nature and origin of potentially illegal activities properly; in which case, all or part of the data will be excluded from deletion until the investigation of the relevant incident is finally resolved.

The basis for this storage is Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in the improvement, stability, functionality, and security of our website.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files or other storage technologies stored on your computer by your browser. These cookies are used to store and process certain specific information about you (e.g., your browser, location data, or IP address).

a) Session cookies:

We use session cookies on our website. These session cookies are deleted when your session is finished (i.e., when you stop using our website) or when you close your browser.

These cookies are used to process certain specific information about you (e.g., your browser, location data, or IP address). This processing makes our website more user-friendly, efficient, and secure, allowing us, for example, to display our website in different languages, to recognize your browser whenever you switch between different pages within our website, or to offer a shopping cart function.

The legal basis for such processing is Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. b) GDPR, as far as these cookies are used to collect data to initiate or process contractual relationships. If the processing does not serve to initiate or process a contract, our legitimate interest lies in improving the functionality of our website. The legal basis is then Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. f) GDPR.

b) Third-party cookies:

If necessary, our website may also use cookies from companies with whom we cooperate for the purpose of advertising, analyzing, or improving the features of our website.

For details regarding the legal basis and purpose of such third-party collection and processing of data collected through cookies, please refer to the respective section(s) below.

c) How to disable or delete cookies:

You can refuse or restrict the use of cookies by adjusting the settings on your browser accordingly. Likewise, you can use the browser to delete cookies that have already been stored. However, the steps and measures required vary, depending on the browser you use. If you have any questions, please use your browser’s help function or consult the documentation for your browser or ask its maker for support.

Browser settings cannot prevent so-called flash cookies from being set. Instead, you will need to change the setting of your Flash player. The steps and measures required for this also depend on the Flash player you are using. If you have any questions, please use the help function or consult the documentation for your Flash player or contact its maker for support.

If you prevent or restrict the installation of cookies, not all of the functions on our site may be fully usable.

Customer account / registration

If you create a customer account with us via our website, we will use the data you entered during registration (e.g. your name, your address, or your email address) exclusively for services leading up to your potential placement of an order or entering some other contractual relationship with us, to fulfill such orders or contracts, and to provide customer care (e.g. to provide you with an overview of your previous orders or to be able to offer you a wishlist function). We also store your IP address and the date and time of your registration. This data will not be transferred to third parties.

During the registration process, your consent will be obtained for this processing of your data, with reference made to this privacy policy. The data collected by us will be used exclusively to provide your customer account.

If you give your consent to this processing, Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. a) GDPR is the legal basis for this processing. If the opening of the customer account is also intended to lead to the initiation of a contractual relationship with us or to fulfill an existing contract with us, the legal basis for this processing is also Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. b) GDPR.

You may revoke your prior consent to the processing of your personal data at any time under Art. 7 Para. 3 GDPR with future effect. All you have to do is inform us that you are revoking your consent.

The data previously collected will then be deleted as soon as processing is no longer necessary. However, we must observe any retention periods required under tax and commercial law.

Order processing

The data you submit when ordering goods and/or services from us will have to be processed in order to fulfill your order. Please note that orders cannot be processed without providing this data.

The legal basis for this processing is Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. b) GDPR.

In order to process your order, we will share your data with the shipping company responsible for delivery to the extent required to deliver your order and/or with the payment service provider to the extent required to process your payment. For further details regarding specific shipping companies or payment service providers (e.g. DHL oder paypal), please refer to the respective section(s) below.

The legal basis for this transfer of the data is Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. b) GDPR.

After your order has been completed, your personal data will be deleted as soon as it is no longer necessary to store or process your data in order to provide legitimate customer care or to comply with the retention periods required by tax and commercial law.

Deliveries via DHL

If your order is delivered via DHL (Deutsche Post AG, Charles-de-Gaulle-Straße 20, D-53113 Bonn), we will usually pass only the name and postal address of the recipient to the DHL, in accordance with Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. f) GDPR. Note that the DHL will be technically unable to deliver your order without knowledge of these data.

If you wish the DHL or their delivery agent to contact you in order to clarify or arrange further details regarding the delivery (e.g., if delivery shall fail due to unforeseen reasons), and if you have declared your express consent during the ordering process or thereafter, we may also pass your email address and/or phone number to the DHL in accordance with Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. a) GDPR. You can revoke your consent at any time and with future effect. To do so, simply inform the members of our sales team, the responsible controllers of your data mentioned above, or the DHL.

Credit checks and scores

If you accept any offer we make for you to pay for goods or services on account, we reserve the right to run a credit check with a credit bureau (such as Creditreform, Schufa, Bürgel, or infoscore) to obtain credit information determined on the basis of mathematical-statistical methods. For this purpose, any data you provide that is relevant to the contract, such as your name and address, will be forwarded to the credit bureau. We then use the information obtained about the statistical probability of default to decide whether we will offer you payment on account.

The legal basis for such processing is our legitimate interest to avoid default on our account per Art. 6 Para.1 lit. f) GDPR.

Contact

If you contact us via email or the contact form, the data you provide will be used exclusively for the purpose of processing your request. Unless we receive and process this data, we will not be able to answer your inquiry appropriately (including good manners, such as avoiding nicknames, Dear Mrs. or Mr.).

Your data will be deleted once we have fully answered your inquiry and there is no further legal obligation to store your data, such as if an order or contract resulted therefrom.

The legal basis for this data processing is Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. f) GDPR, where our legit interest is to respond appropriately to your request, and, as far as processing serves the initiation of a contractual relationship or the fulfillment of an existing contract with us, also Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. b) GDPR.

User posts, comments, and ratings

We offer you the opportunity to post questions, answers, opinions, and ratings on our website (hereinafter referred to jointly as: “posts”). If you make use of this opportunity, we will process and publish your post, the date and time you submitted it, and any pseudonym you may have used.

The legal basis for this is Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. a) GDPR. You may revoke your prior consent under Art. 7 Para. 3 GDPR with future effect. All you have to do is inform us that you are revoking your consent.

In addition, we will also process your IP address and email address. The IP address is processed because we might have a legitimate interest in taking or supporting further action if your post infringes the rights of third parties and/or is otherwise unlawful.

In this case, the legal basis is Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in any legal defense we may have to mount.

Follow-up comments

If you make posts on our website, we also offer you the opportunity to subscribe to any subsequent follow-up comments made by third parties. In order to be able to inform you about these follow-up comments, we will need to process your email address.

The legal basis for this is Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. a) GDPR. You may revoke your prior consent to this subscription under Art. 7 Para. 3 GDPR with future effect. All you have to do is inform us that you are revoking your consent or click on the unsubscribe link contained in each email.

Google Web Fonts

Our website uses Google Fonts to display external fonts. This is a service provided by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043 (hereinafter: “Google”).

Through certification according to the EU-US Privacy Shield which can be verified at https://www.privacyshield.gov/participant?id=a2zt000000001L5AAI&status=Active Google guarantees that it will follow the EU’s data protection regulations when processing data in the United States.

To accomplish a uniform representation of fonts (i.e., the specific shape of single letters) on our website, a connection to the Google server in the USA is established whenever our website is accessed.

The legal basis is Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in the optimization and economic operation of our site.

When you access our site, a connection to Google is established from which Google can identify the site from which your request has been sent and to which IP address the fonts are being transmitted for display.

Google offers detailed information about your privacy on websites using Web Fonts at https://developers.google.com/fonts/faq and, in particular on options for preventing the use of data, at https://adssettings.google.com/authenticated and https://policies.google.com/privacy.

Matomo (formerly: PIWIK)

Our website uses Matomo (formerly: PIWIK). This is open-source software with which we can analyze the use of our site. Data such as your IP address, the pages you visit, the website from which you came (referrer URL), the duration of your visit, and the frequency of your visits is processed.

Matomo stores a cookie on your device via your browser in order to collect this data. This cookie is valid for one week.

The legal basis is Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in the analysis and optimization of our website.

We use Matomo with the “Automatically Anonymize Visitor IPs” function. This anonymization function truncates your IP address by two bytes so that it is impossible to assign it to you or to the internet connection you are using.

If you do not agree to this processing, you have the option of preventing the installation of cookies by making the appropriate settings in your browser. Further details can be found in the section about cookies above.

In addition, you have the option of terminating the analysis of your usage behavior by opting out. By confirming the link [INSERT IFRAME FROM MATOMO WITH OPT-OUT-COOKIE] a cookie is stored on your device via your browser to prevent any further analysis. Please note, however, that you must click the above link again if you delete the cookies stored on your end device.

The data collected in this way is in turn used by Google to provide us with an evaluation of visits to our website and what visitors do once there. This data can also be used to provide other services related to the use of our website and of the internet in general.

Google states that it will not connect your IP address to other data. In addition, Google provides further information with regard to its data protection practices at https://www.google.com/intl/de/policies/privacy/partners including options you can exercise to prevent such use of your data.

This add-on can be installed on the most popular browsers and offers you further control over the data that Google collects when you visit our website. The add-on informs Google Analytics’ JavaScript (ga.js) that no information about the website visit should be transmitted to Google Analytics. However, this does not prevent information from being transmitted to us or to other web analytics services we may use as detailed herein.

Google AdWords with Conversion Tracking

Our website uses Google AdWords and conversion tracking. This is a service provided by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043 (hereinafter: “Google”).

If the cookie is still valid and you visit a specific page of our website, both we and Google can evaluate that you clicked on one of our ads placed on Google and that you were then forwarded to our website.

In addition, we receive information about the number of users who clicked on our advertisement(s) as well as about the pages on our site that are subsequently visited. Neither we nor third parties who also use Google AdWords will be able to identify you from this conversion tracking.

You can also prevent or restrict the installation of cookies by making the appropriate settings in your browser. Likewise, you can use the browser to delete cookies that have already been stored. However, the steps and measures required vary, depending on the browser you use.
